Mays to lead strategic initiatives as well as marketing efforts
New role targets key pursuits, strategic relationships, industry partnerships


Susan MaysDENVER, Colo., Dec. 7, 2011 — Susan Mays has been named vice president, marketing & strategic initiatives, for CH2M HILL’s Operations & Maintenance Business Group, helping creating business development and sales strategies in addition to providing overall direction for the business group’s marketing and communications program.

The new position expands on Mays’ previous work as marketing & communications director. Rich D’Amato, O&MBG senior vice president for business development, says the enhanced role will enable Mays to assist in developing winning strategies for key business pursuits, as well as focus on strategic relationships and industry partnerships with organizations such as the National Association of Water Companies, National League of Cities, National Council for Public Private Partnerships and most recently, CH2M HILL’s partnership with the University of Kansas School of Public Affairs and Administration.

“We are excited to have Susan in this new role, which will allow her to focus more directly with our clients and help us improve and develop new strategies that will provide customers with innovative solutions,” D’Amato says. “She has an incredible understanding of customers’ needs and is skillful in crafting messages that reinforce our strategies and value propositions. Furthermore, her work on our most strategic relationships and partnerships will help position us in the market, but more importantly it will help us evolve and innovate our services to increase our value proposition and market share.”

As marketing & communications director, Mays has led a 14-person team responsible for the O&MBG’s proposal development, media relations, community relations, employee communications, print and electronic collateral materials, website, sales support, and conferences and trade shows. She also serves on the team responsible for CH2M HILL’s corporate social media presence. Under her leadership, the marketing and communications team has been recognized with more than three dozen awards, including coveted national honors such as the Public Relations Society of America Bronze Anvil and CINE Golden Eagle.

Mays has 24 years of experience in public and community relations, and corporate and marketing communications. Since joining CH2M HILL in 1996, she has been involved in the development of some of the nation’s landmark public-private partnerships, including the company’s groundbreaking contract for the complete management of municipal services with the city of Sandy Springs, Ga., in 2005. She holds a Bachelor of Journalism degree from the University of Missouri and a Certificate in Strategic Communications Management from Ithaca College.
