CENTENNIAL, Colo., May 6, 2009 — Centennial's Willow Creek is cleaner, thanks to the efforts of more than 40 volunteers. Residents of the Willow Creek neighborhood celebrated Earth Week on Saturday, April 25, by partnering with Centennial's Public Works team to pick up trash and debris.

The Willow Creek clean-up was a joint effort by CH2M HILL OMI, American Civil Constructors and AECOM. The three companies provide public works services to Centennial under CH2M HILL OMI's public-private partnership agreement with the city.

Volunteers ranging in age from 3 up collected nearly 2 tons of trash. Trash removal helps protect the creek and provides a more pleasant neighborhood.

"Keeping our streams and waterways clean not only maintains the beauty of our communities, but it also protects our water sources," says CH2M HILL OMI's Alan Ridgeway, a senior technical specialist in the company's Englewood office whose whole family pitched in on the clean-up.

The Willow Creek clean-up began with a safety lesson discussing the importance of wearing gloves and being aware of your surroundings. City of Centennial staff let volunteers know what to do if a coyote was encountered during the clean-up – information about "appearing big" and making loud noises that came in handy when one coyote was sighted.
