Join CH2M HILL OMI for volunteer day Denver, Oct. 23, 2007 — Helping to expand the spirit of community service in New Orleans, CH2M HILL OMI is kicking off its participation in the Congress of Cities by sponsoring a volunteer day with and making a donation to the New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity.
Held Tuesday, Nov. 13, the volunteer event is open to all clients, partners and friends of CH2M HILL OMI. People who attend will spend their day working on new houses —hammering, painting, plastering and more — and helping to revitalize this unique American city that hundreds of families call home. Participants will receive lunch, transportation, T-shirts and water bottles from CH2M HILL OMI in thanks for their volunteer service. Clients and partners who wish to attend must register online by Friday, Nov. 9. CH2M HILL OMI also is donating $2,000 to NOAHH in honor of clients who are participating. Mark Lasswell, CH2M HILL OMI president, will present the check to Gina Stilp, Habitat development coordinator, on Tuesday at the work site. “New Orleans is slowly rebuilding, and it is through the hard work of volunteers that the revitalization is possible,” says Jim Pate, New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity executive director. “We have an unprecedented goal of building 1,500 houses in five years, and thanks to the work of volunteers, such as the CH2M HILL OMI participants, we’re making great progress toward our goal.” “Habitat is a wonderful program that’s worth working hard for – but we also plan to have a lot of fun. We hope to collaborate with as many municipal clients as possible and make a real difference for deserving families in New Orleans through our volunteer day and donation,” says Gary Miller, CH2M HILL OMI senior vice president. “Sponsoring this project aligns with our goal to be a great community citizen in the cities where we live, work and visit.” CH2M HILL OMI will be in New Orleans to join municipal leaders from around the U.S. at the largest conference of the year, the National League of Cities Annual Congress of Cities, held Nov. 14–17. Exhibiting in booth 1504, the company will showcase its range of operations and maintenance solutions — all designed to help cities and counties further strengthen or improve their public assets and processes. Experts in municipal services, operations and maintenance services, and technical consulting will be on hand to help potential clients explore solutions that can help them better meet environmental performance standards, preserve and extend capital investments, control costs and much more. In addition, the Water Partnership Council is sponsoring a workshop about privately managed water/wastewater systems at 11:15 a.m. on Nov. 15. Mayor Willie Davis from Vienna, Ga., is among the panel participants who will be sharing their views on water partnerships. CH2M HILL OMI has operated and maintained Vienna’s wastewater system since 1994 and recently earned a contract renewal for another 15 years.
