Renewing long-term partnerships in Florida
Recent contract renewals are adding to CH2M HILL OMI's history of long-term partnerships with our customers. In unanimous decisions by city leadership, CH2M HILL OMI recently renewed contracts in Crestview and Key West, Fla. Crestview's city council chose to extend its partnership for O&M services for an additional five years and also picked CH2M HILL to perform engineering services for the design and construction of an expansion to the city's wastewater treatment facility. CH2M HILL OMI has provided O&M services for Crestview since 1994. In Key West (shown), a vote by the mayor and city commission will lead to the company providing O&M of the city's wastewater treatment plant and stormwater drainage system for an additional five years. In 2013, our partnership with the city of Key West will reach a 25-year milestone.

Louisiana partnership hits one-year mark
Just six months ago, the city of Central, La., weathered one of the worst storms ever recorded. But it didn’t do it alone. Central, which recently reached Central, La.its one-year milestone as CH2M HILL OMI’s partner, had a dedicated team of associates to help clear more than 142 miles of city streets and 100-plus tons of debris while keeping city hall open around the clock. The Central team doesn’t just keep the city running during storms, tornadoes and eight-inch snowfalls. CH2M HILL OMI provides complete municipal operations for the city, including transportation services, planning and zoning, inspections, code enforcement, permitting, and general administrative services. CH2M HILL OMI also helps sponsor the city’s Cooking for Our Kids, which helps support area schools. The fourth annual event will be held later this week.

NLC offering webcasts and resources on the economic recovery
Cities are challenged with how to do more for less. To help, the National League of Cities is offering free online webcasts and resources to help cities maximize federal dollars being made available by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. NLC's Web site also includes a number of resources and FAQs about the act, including a special report on economic recovery. Tom WilsonCH2M HILL OMI leadership brings a wealth of experience and dedication to its clients, and Tom Wilson is no exception. As a community development director, Tom oversees a range of planning and zoning, code enforcement activities for our client cities in Georgia, Louisiana, Colorado and Florida. Tom's career spans 30 years of working with city and county governments, including work in Fulton County and Roswell, Ga., before joining CH2M HILL OMI. Tom's strong mediation and consensus-building skills bring an extra value when working with staff, citizens and elected officials to reach a compromise that works for everyone. When he's not on the clock, Tom puts his compassion and understanding to work in the North Fulton County community. The number of people in need is increasing at a higher rate than the capacity of existing service agencies. As the only facility of its kind in North Fulton, The Drake House strives to fill this ever-growing housing need without disrupting children's school lives and mothers' job opportunities by requiring them to relocate to other parts of metro Atlanta.

Elisa M. Speranza
President’s perspective
My favorite part of my job is getting out to meet our clients and our associates in the field. During the past few weeks, I've had the chance to visit Bonita Springs and Ave Maria in Southwest Florida and five projects in South Coastal Georgia: Hinesville, Effingham County, Tybee Island, Thunderbolt and Richmond Hill. The natural beauty of these areas helps underscore the importance of our environmental protection mission.

As always, I learned so much from listening to our clients. In Florida, the impact of the current economic crisis is evident in the stalled development projects and challenges cities are facing with declining revenues. In coastal Georgia, the picture is a little brighter with the growth of Fort Stewart and the influx of new families associated with the base. But the anxiety is just beneath the surface there as well. In both places, I was heartened by the progressive attitude of our clients, who are continually looking for creative ways to deliver high-quality service to their residents, and by the pride and commitment of our associates in meeting those needs.

Whether it's the 24/7 provision of water and wastewater treatment, keeping streets and parks clean and tidy, or running a state-of-the-art wetlands treatment facility, our people are finding ways every day to deliver cost-effective, environmentally sensitive services in spite of these tough times. We are grateful for the excellent partners we have in the Southeast, throughout North America and around the world. Together, we'll get through this and face whatever challenges come our way.

Respectfully,

Elisa M. Speranza
President
