Lasswell promoted; new president named
CH2M HILL OMI has appointed Elisa M. Speranza as the company’s new president. She replaces Mark Lasswell, who has been promoted to president and group chief executive for CH2M HILL’s Civil Infrastructure Client Group, a division focused on serving state and local government clients with a full range of engineering, construction and operations services. It includes three business groups: Transportation, Water, and Operations & Maintenance, known as CH2M HILL OMI.
Speranza joins CH2M HILL OMI from the firm’s Water Business Group, where she spearheaded many successful teams and initiatives over the past seven years. Her recognized leadership in the North American water profession, coupled with her experience in public utility management and in consulting, gives her a unique blend of experience that directly aligns with our mission.
“CH2M HILL OMI has a proven history as a true community partner and good corporate citizen that’s driven to exceed client expectations,” says Lasswell. “So it’s important to me that we continue to build on the tremendous momentum we’ve generated – and I’m confident Elisa Speranza is the right executive to accomplish that.”
During Lasswell’s tenure, the company grew revenue, extended its leadership in water and wastewater management, and launched its successful municipal services business.
Fortune names us among ‘Best Companies to Work For’
For the third time, an extensive survey conducted by Fortune magazine and the Great Place to Work Institute has revealed CH2M HILL as one of America’s “100 Best Companies to Work For.” Announced earlier this week, the 2008 list recognizes that we have a top-quality workplace environment – which attracts the best people who can best serve our clients like you. We’re proud to have earned a spot on this prestigious listing – coming in at No. 54. CH2M HILL’s workplace also made the list in 2003 and 2006.
Magazine covers our consulting expertise
An article about our company’s approach to conducting condition assessments was selected as the cover story for the November/December issue of Underground Infrastructure Management magazine. Called “ Condition Assessment: Getting to the Heart of the Matter,” the article outlines the steps we take when helping our customers evaluate their most critical infrastructure assets in a precise, data-driven way. In addition to condition assessments, other consulting services that CH2M HILL OMI provides include asset management, operator training and interim management services.

Operators in Sandy, Ore., host high-school tour
From Key West, Fla., to Gilroy, Calif., CH2M HILL OMI people are passionate about sharing their knowledge and teaching kids about the importance of water and natural resources. We collectively educate hundreds of people every year through science experiments, career days and plant tours. Most recently, our team at the Sandy, Ore., wastewater treatment plant hosted its third annual student field trip. High-schoolers gained an understanding of the chemical, mechanical, and biological processes that make up a treatment system – and perhaps were inspired to consider future careers in environmental technology.

Liberty, Mo., declared ‘Capital for a Day’
Congratulations to the City of Liberty, selected by Missouri Governor Matt Blunt as the “ Capital for a Day” in December – only the second city to earn the designation. Through the new program, the Governor and other high-ranking state officials meet with citizens, hear local concerns and visit local organizations. Liberty’s water treatment plant, operated and maintained by CH2M HILL OMI since 1996, was one of the stops on the official tour. City leaders and CH2M HILL OMI staff in Liberty hosted state and regional directors from the Department of Natural Resources, who complimented the staff on an impressive compliance record and a well-maintained facility.
DuPont demonstrates great corporate citizenship
Several buildings in Yellowston e National Park soon will be a little more sustainable, thanks to a donation from DuPont. Supporting several remodeling projects, DuPont said it is donating its Tyvek® Weather Barrier Systems to help reduce the energy load required to heat and cool the remodeled buildings and protect structures from air and water penetration. Tyvek is manufactured at DuPont's facility in Richmond, Va., where CH2M HILL OMI contributes its own sustainability expertise to help operate and maintain DuPont’s industrial wastewater treatment system. Way to go green, DuPont!

U.S. Mayors highlight industry’s top PPPs
Where are businesses and cities best working together to improve the quality of life for citizens? The United States Conference of Mayors aims to uncover the answer every year through its Public/Private Partnership Awards process. This year, the Conference recognized 10 public-private partnerships, including one between the City of Johns Creek, Ga., and CH2M HILL OMI, through which the company manages all major city functions except public safety.
“Quite simply, Johns Creek would not have been able to achieve all that we have in our first year were it not for our partnership with CH2M HILL OMI,” says Mayor Mike Bodker.
" Today's awards recognize 10 successful and outstanding relationships between cities and businesses," says Las Vegas Mayor Oscar B. Goodman, who presented the awards. "They support the Conference’s message of creating a strong and engaged business community inside our organization, sharing and working with us on visions of success to make our cities—and ultimately our nation – economically stronger."
Also at the Conference’s 76th winter meeting, mayors are focusing on issues such as energy efficiency and conservation, climate protection, the creation of green jobs, infrastructure, and travel/tourism.
