Partnership serves new community in Florida

Jan. 29, 2007—CH2M HILL OMI is working with the new community of Ave Maria, Fla., to provide a variety of services to the development, which is located east of Naples.

The newly-formed Ave Maria Utility Company LLLP (AMUC) is responsible for providing utility services for the development. To meet its goals, AMUC hired CH2M HILL to design, build and operate a new water and wastewater facility. Phase one construction is now complete, and CH2M HILL OMI, the operations and maintenance division of CH2M HILL, is operating the facility that will serve Ave Maria’s first residents who are expected to begin moving in later this year. In addition, CH2M HILL OMI is responsible for administering all aspects of Ave Maria Utility Company, which includes developer plan reviews, billing functions and customer service functions.

Barron Collier Companies formed a joint venture with Ave Maria University to create the utility. Barron Collier Cos. Project Manager David Genson says that offering excellent customer service is key to the utility’s success.

“It’s of the utmost importance that we do a good job from the beginning, and one big component of doing a good job is customer service,” says Mr. Genson. “[CH2M HILL] OMI is known for providing excellent customer service, and we look forward to them doing the same for this new utility.”

Ave Maria represents a unique approach to building a town because it is being developed in conjunction with a new university and oratory, which will form the center of the community. Ave Maria will encompass approximately 5,000 acres and will include 11,000 residential dwellings, retail space, golf courses, lakes, open space and community support facilities.
