President Bush congratulates OMI for winning Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award
Denver, April 6, 2001 — Today Operations Management International, Inc. (OMI) a winner of the 2000 Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, the nation’s premier award for performance excellence and quality achievement, is attending a ceremony presided by President George W. Bush and Secretary of Commerce Donald Evans in Washington, D.C. A delegation of 50 OMI associates and clients from across the country traveled to the nation’s capital to receive the Baldrige Award from President Bush. The group includes water and wastewater plant operators, mechanics, utility workers and operators-in-training selected from among OMI’s 1,400 associates in a company-wide drawing.
All 170 OMI facilities worldwide will host their own Baldrige Award celebrations at the same time as the official ceremony. At the celebration, special gifts will be presented to associates and clients to thank the people responsible for OMI’s winning the award.
“Winning the Baldrige Award demonstrates how our quality process continues to positively affect the millions of lives our people touch through the daily provision of superior utility management services,” says OMI President Don S. Evans, P.E.
Named after a former Secretary of Commerce, the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award is an annual award that recognizes U.S. organizations for performance excellence. It is the highest-level quality award given in the United States. The Baldrige Award evaluates organizations on seven performance excellence criteria: leadership, strategic planning, customer and market focus, information and analysis, human resource focus, process management, and performance and business results. OMI uses that criteria as a cornerstone for its "Obsessed with Quality" process.
“At OMI, quality isn’t something we just talk about; it’s the way we do business,” says OMI Vice President of Quality and Technology Roger B. Quayle. “For our customers that means lower costs, world-class quality, amazing service and long-term relationships.”
Since Congress established the award in 1987, 41 organizations have earned the award. One of four 2000 Baldrige Award recipients, OMI is this year’s only winner in the service category and the first-ever winner in the water and wastewater industry.
“OMI could not have won the Baldrige Award if it weren’t for the hard work of every associate. We’re thrilled to celebrate this momentous achievement today with the President of the United States and the other Baldrige Award winners. I would like to extend my congratulations to all OMI employees,” says Evans.
